For the development of this active ingredient, SILAB got particularly interested in transcompartmental communication between the dermis and the epidermis during aging, an essential component to ensure skin longevity. To this end, a novel in vitro modeling study was implemented, making it possible for the first time to map the mediators involved in dermal-epidermal communication and to demonstrate their deregulation during aging. The resulting communication shortfall impairs the biological functions of the epidermis. Thanks to COMMUSYS®, the molecular players involved in communication from the dermis to the epidermis are regulated and epidermal functions are reactivated.
Brigitte Closs-Gonthier, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of R&D, Quality and Communication, comments: “COMMUSYS® brings together several of our areas of expertise: our in-depth knowledge of skin biology, of course, but also our ability to select and beneficially use natural peptides and our cutting-edge mastery of biotechnologies. We have our own biotechnology production unit, enabling the large-scale growing of yeast, microalgae and bacteria, whose fascinating properties open up access to unique molecules of interest. We are very pleased to receive this award, which highlights these three SILAB signatures and underlines the scientific innovation behind this active ingredient.”
Indeed, COMMUSYS® is composed of biopeptides from the yeast Pichia stipitis, grown in SILAB’s biotechnology production unit. Thanks to its capacity to restore dermis-epidermis communication altered during aging, this active ingredient offers an innovative anti-aging solution with hydrating, smoothing and radiance-boosting effects.
